2024-2025 Ober Mountain Opening Dates
Ober Mountain’s snow tubing slope officially opens for the 2024-2025 season on November 23, 2024! The snow tubing slope will be open daily through March (closing date is undecided).
The rest of the ski slopes will open in mid December! You can find the schedules, prices, current slope & weather report, etc at https://obermountain.com/. Be sure to visit their website for the latest slope report before you visit as weather can impact which slopes they have open.
Ober Mountain Snow Report and Ski Conditions
The best way to find out which slopes are open, depth of the snow, weather, etc is to check the official Ober Mountain snow report. There are a couple of ways to check the report:
1) Call (800) 251-9202 – This is the official snow report hotline with a recording of the current day’s conditions and information. Be sure to call this number the day you plan to visit to make sure slopes are open and what to expect. For example, if the weather is cold and they’re making snow then plan to bring goggles or at least sunglasses as the snow machines can impair your vision.

Skiing is arguably the most popular activity as people come from all over to ski in Gatlinburg, TN. Ober Mountain has ski rentals available for those that do not own ski equipment. They also have ski lessons available from experienced instructors to help beginners learn the basics of skiing. There are a couple of beginner slopes available as well as intermediate and advanced slopes for those that like speed, moguls, etc. You’ll love skiing in Gatlinburg!
Snowboarding in Gatlinburg, TN
Snowboarding at Ober Mountain became increasingly popular back in the 1990’s and Ober Mountain has grown to welcome snowboarders with open arms. Ober Mountain also has snowboard equipment for rent and instructors available ready to get people up and surfing the snow in no time. The learning curve for snowboarding is often slightly more difficult than skiing (as far as staying up), so if you’re a beginner, be sure to have good padding on your rear your first time!
If you happen to have snowboarding experience, then you’ll love the options at Ober Mountain with the various slopes, speeds, moguls, jumps, and the increasingly popular freestyle terrain park described below!
Ober Mountain Freestyle Terrain Park
One of the hottest additions to Ober Mountain has been the Ober Mountain Freestyle Terrain Park filled with jumps, rails, boxes, tabletops, spines and all sorts of terrain for freestyling. Snowboarders and skiers alike love the terrain park as it’s a great place to showcase skills as well as just sit and watch! With the terrain park being more geared for advanced riders, definitely check out the webpage about Ober’s terrain park for more info and safety information:

Tubing at Ober Mountain
Don’t want to ski or snowboard but still want to have fun in the snow? Then check out the popular snow tubing slope! Maybe you had a winter snow at home where you grabbed a sled or tube and headed to the nearest hill and then proceeded to sled down, hike up, sled down, hike up, sled down, hike up, sled down, LAY down. Well at Ober’s tubing slope, there’s no hiking and the slope is most likely faster and longer than anything you’ve ever sledded down! Each ticket session lasts an hour and a half, giving you all sorts of time to have a blast tubing down and riding the lift back to the top (no hiking!). Children as young as 3 years old can tube (ages 3-5 must ride with an adult), which makes this a fantastic option to get on the snow and have fun with the family!
The hour-and-a-half tubing session rates are $30 on weekdays and $35 on weekends & holiday periods. Tickets can be purchased ONLINE if you plan to purchase tickets in advance (not same day). If you want to buy tickets on the same day that you plan to visit, you must purchase the tickets in-person at either their tram office on the parkway in downtown Gatlinburg or at their ticket office on top of the mountain. Sessions can get sold out (especially on weekends), so we highly advise purchasing tickets in advance!
You can see more details, rates, and session availability on their website at:
