The Trails at Ober offer a fabulous hike through the woods that surround Ober Gatlinburg’s 60 year old ski slopes, which border the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! You’ll also come across many unique features on your journey, including a bridge, ponds and even a wishing well! While the hike is not difficult and geared toward families, note that it does range from easy, rolling hills to short bursts of moderate, uphill climbs. Don’t worry – there are several opportunities to rest and hydrate during your hike!
2. How to Access the Hike
Another thing that you need to know about hiking the trails at Ober Gatlinburg is how to access the hike! The only way to reach the trails is by riding Ober Gatlinburg’s Scenic Chairlift, which is included in the price. This peaceful chairlift ride provides an impressive 779 foot rise in elevation above the park and offers incredible views of the Smoky Mountains! At 3,019 feet in length, this is also the longest chairlift ride of its type in the United States! Once you reach the top, you’ll find the head of the trail where you can begin your hiking adventure in the woods!
3. What to Bring Along for the Hike
While there is no specific “packing list” required for the Trails at Ober, there are a few items that you’ll probably want to bring along for your hike! To protect yourself from the elements, consider packing some sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. You may also want to bring some insect repellant since you’ll be walking through the woods during the warmer times of the year! This activity takes place rain or shine, so bring rain gear just in case because you never know when a shower might pop up! You can hike the trails at Ober from late May to October, but the park is open all year round with a variety of different activities!
